The lead producer of this website, Khalil Coleman, 23, lives in Milwaukee. His mom brought him here with his sister from Brooklyn in 1987.

She was a single parent looking for a new start. In Milwaukee, she managed to keep her family together and, over time, to give them a modest but reasonably secure lifestyle.

Khalil attends Milwaukee Area Technical College and is studying to be a teacher. He wants to inspire kids to read and love literature. He's a writer himself, currently working on a story entitled Time & Place: In the Life of B & K. And he's keenly interested in the economic and social forces that shape Milwaukee's Black community.

Last summer, Khalil Coleman and his co-producer, Mark Doremus, took a ride from Sherman Park through the diverse neighborhoods of Milwaukee's north side.

Khalil shot some video and reflected on what he saw out the window of Mark's pickup truck.
